Yes, Britney or the other singer you said has EMOtive lyrics but that doesn't mean they need to be labeled 'emo '. 

The true meaning of 'EMO' is a style of hardcore punk which describes several variations of music with common roots. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. [ from wikipedia ].

The 'EMO' you're saying is referred to EMOTIONAL. emotional and emo is not the same. =]
